this is what www.exoticlizards.com said (where im buying the cham from)...theyve had this store for a while and said this is what they do and have never had a problem with any of the chameleons, what do u guys think?:

"This is what we do. Take the plant outside and hose it down really good.
Soak the soil really well also. Let is sit outside for 24 hours. That's it.
Sometimes people get a little over-paranoid (especially online). I wouldn't
worry about the covering the soil as he won't eat on it if you are providing
a proper diet. Dusting your crickets with Miner-All calcium daily (once
every two or three days when they are older than 6 months) and herptivite
once a week will provide them with the additional vitamins and minerals they
need. Also I will show how we care for the crickets so that you are
providing a nutrious diet to your chameleon."

Sounds fine to me. Just make sure you are using a plant that is not harmful to the cham if eaten. If you want to, you can cover the soil, but as the company you spoke of said, if you are feeding your cham properly it shouldn't eat the soil.

I would be worried about the plant getting some sort of mite or bug if left outside that long and pass stuff to the Cham...
I would leave it in the bathtub to dry.

Yeah I agree with Jem, to be safe I would do it in the bath too,. at least then you won't worry about some insect getting into the plant, and it also keeps the plant safe from any pesticides that may be used in your area.

ok, so just wet the plant very well outside, and then let it try out in the bathtub for 24 hours? leave the windows open or no?

You aren't just wetting the plant. Most commercial nurseries spray an incredible amount of concoctions on plants in the way of fungicides insecticides etc. You are trying to make sure that these are all washed off. Then just let it dry. Unless the area is very humid it shouldn't take too long.
