Hot Tips Needed Tonight (like now!)
Hi everyone...I'm going to collect a rehomed Chameleon tonite
I'm delighted...I'll explain how & why later but for now I REALLY NEED SOME HOT TIPS... one liners are fine. I'm not sure which species of Cham she is just that she is about 12mths old appx 6inches n-vl. I have to go downstairs now to tnd to my 2 Chinese Water Dragons, 2 Kenyan Tree Agamas, All My Mantids & other inverts, newts, frogs phasmids, finches etc. She is gonna come with her own set up... are they touchy (like WD's) about their set up being changed? Temp ? Humidity?.... I'm gonna have a read up on care sheets & my library, but nothing like 1st hand knowlege. So hope to see some replies when I surface from my Rep Room Ciao & Cheers Cole ![]() |

Hello,
Without knowing the species you are getting, its hard to offer advice. lol Most Chams do not like to be handled and they are easily stressed. They are a UV species which means you will need to provide an artificial UV source. (http://www.reptileuv.com) Most Chams require higher humidity levels. Once you know the species, you will be capable of getting some more specific responses. |

Ok everybody.... She is a Female Yemen Chameleon, was 2yrs old in August just gone, not been handled much, & it sounds as though she is in good shape,
coming with viv n all from what sounds like consientious owners who have looked after her ok & provided what she's needed. I'm not sure about the high ? level of UVb though, how much do they need ...?? I have my Dragons who seem to be fairing ok under standard 24- 30" Repti fluoro's with new bulbs at the mo'... so woss with the UV requirements anyone? is Merc vapour essential or more than 1 strip ok ? I can see that I've come to the right place, you guys have excellent menageries, will look at & post pics later, Just confirmed collecting her at 9pm... Yay!!!!! I was getting butterflies (Atlas Moths) wondering if they'd reconsidered.STORY: i was in the pet store today getting some locusts for my Cheech n Chong & George n mildred, when I overheard a Mum & teen Daughter saying something about getting rid of a rep!!!!. .. I asked what they wanted to rehome & they said a Chameleon!!!! ...Well I nearly wet myself....YES wanted one since before I got my Dragons but ££££!!! spent tooo muich on my Viv's. I love t' give em a taste of home Anyway I arranged to collect her tonight...... from 5mins away..(bit cold out ) with Viv & spare viv & equipment & advice for FREEEEE WoW! Nerr Nerr...lol cool aye?... The daughter lost interest after about a year, the parents took over but have busy jobs etc so now want a good home but were reluctant to just let her go to a school or the local store. Cool! what we call "a touch" round here.Anyway I'm going to feed & water myself now theyre all done.... I'll be back to check any replies quickly when I get her home & in the warm... Thanks All Cole |

I just use a one strip floursent strip light with a UV blub. Replace every 6 months. I've had no problems.

You don't need a mercury vapor, but you will need a UVB florescent bulb, and as mentioned - they need to be replaced every 6 months. With a Veiled (yemen) you need a good basking spot, so a bulb that will give you a spot of 90 degrees.
This is a female? At some point she is going to need to lay eggs. Be on the lookout for her being gravid, and when she becomes so, you need to give her a tub with soft soil that she can dig in to lay the eggs. |
