    Sick Veiled Chameleon

Can anyone help me I just got a 31/2 month old baby veiled form a friend and it is sick and I don't know what to do for it, the guy that i got it from is an idiot he had it in a 1 gal fish tank and had it on a hot water heater, no lights, no heat and was only feeding it once a day, no cal dust and was only misting it twice a day, poor thing his eyes will not open ( there is no gunk it them ) the baby will just not open them, with no eyes he is walking around like a blind man and can't see the food that I have got for him, I have bin hand feeding, sort of force feeding him to get some food in him and using elect lite in water, also giving warm water baths to help him out. He will not eat or drink and his eye are all ways shut, can anyone help me out to save this poor baby. thank bigdave

Tell us about his current setup now that you own him. Lights, temps, humidity, size and type of enclosure, etc...

Does your day light bulb give off UVB? What is the cage made of?

yes it gives off UVB and the cage is a plywood body with green astro turf covering for the back 2 sides and bottom the front and top are made off screening mesh. The cage was fine for our adult male veiled he lived in it for 6 years and did just fine untill his death he wes 8 or so years old.

    Re: Sick Veiled Chameleon

The closed eyes could be from a simple bactrial infection whe had a simular problem with one of our females a while back. Your cage is very large for a small chamelon it would be hard for it to locate food thoughout the cage. Though I would address the eye problem first a good reptile vet should beable to tell you right away, as one of the signs is discoloration of the tissue in the mouth. If it looks grayish, its most likely your problem.

I'm sorry to hear about your cham. If you should decide to get another. I would recommend finding a breeder in your area and getting it there. Also if your don't have much experince with chams it's best to start with one at least 6 months old as they are already eating larger prey.
