Chameleon Eyes?
Ok, I may be just an over anxious dad, but Clyde is rubbing his eyes on his grape vine and he is moving his eyes all over the place. He seems to be pulling them in and out as well. Is this what people mean by cleaning his eyes? I misted him just now, thinking maybe he had gotten some powder in his eye from his powdered cricket dinner. The misting didn't seem to help. Now 5 minutes later, Clyde is now acting normal again but I am still concerned. Whats the low-down on Cham eyes?

You definitely want to watch them - eye infections can be a problem for chams, and as you know - they rely on their eyes quite a bit. As long as the eye is open, and you don't see discharge or any kind of "crusty" residue, I would not really worry. If you start to see him with his eye closed during the day, or crusted over, then you may have an eye infection. It does not sound like it is definitely an eye infection, so just keep an eye on it (no pun intended). Misting him a little (I know he hates it) might not be a bad idea, either, just in case...
I would really recommend that you get the Linda Davidson book if you have not ordered it - there is great info on all the kinds of common things you want to look out for and what factors contribute to them etc - great info on husbandry and feeding as well.

His eyes seem to be normal, no discharge or other things that I would associate with infection. In fact, since shortly after his misting, he has acted completely normal for him. He ate another cricket, went wading in his leaf bowl and had a drink of water. Maybe his eye just itched! I am definitely going to watch him. As if I don't worry enough! He did get a UVB light this evening, so at least that is something. Now he's sleeping so I'll check on him in the morning. I have a book on Chameleon care coming but I'll check into the other book.

Sounds like he's fine - relax. It makes sense to evaluate what could be a problem - chams can really make it hard on an owner who's not on top of things, but it's apparent that's not the case here... If he's exhibiting normal behavior (and that's where all that time watching him pays off! ) then I would not stress.

Ok, the book by Davidson is on its way. I also picked up another one that had a section on disease and side striped chams. I have another question - if Rocky's Dad is looking at this - how did you post your photo? I have to go through great convoluted lengths to get mine on as a thumbnail, let alone an actual picture. (I am currently having to take my image and print it on the printer, scan it back in to the computer and then turn it into a lower resolution photo in order to get it to post. I can't just take the picture loaded on the computer from my camera and post it. Am I missing something?)

Do you mean the avatar? Avatars have a size limit to them. I think the size limit on this site is 80 by 80 pixels or 19.5 KB, whichever one is smaller. If your pic is too big, you need to resize it. If you mean actual pictures in a message, try http://www.photobucket.com Its free image hosting and you just load your pics on there. Then you can resize them, post them, or post their URLs.

I use the site that furryscaly listed to host the image. Once the image is hosted and has a URL address you can post it directly to the board by going to the image and right-clicking on it - select "properties" and then a box will come up with info that contains the URL address. Highlight the entire address, and copy it (Ctrl+C). Then come here and post your photo by starting a thread or replying to a current one and click the "insert image" icon (mountains) a box will open up asking for the URL - paste it in by hitting Ctrl+V and then click OK.

The URL and image tag should also be seen under each picture. I just copy and paste the URL from there, or copy and paste the image tag to make tha actual photo appear in my post.

To post a pic as an avatar go to the user CP in the top part of the screen, go to edit avatar. Select use custom avatar and select an image from your computer or from Photobucket. The maximum size allowed is 100 by 100 pixels or 19.5 KB. If you have photo editing software on your computer you can simply copy the pic and resize it. You can even use a "Paint" program to adjust the image attributes.

Hi All!
I went out to buy Clyde some privacy plants. It was far easier than I thought it would be. The store I went to had several of the plants that were on the safe list. I now have more than he needs but I thought it would help if he got used to the plants before he moves to his new digs. He climbed all over them and then soaked in his water dish. I am beginning to believe he is a fish and not a chameleon with his bathing activities.
I will try the suggestions on posting photos most likely tomorrow evening. I have a picture of Clyde taking his bath that I will try to post. Thanks for all the help!
