veiled cham
I got a female veiled cham about a month ago. When I first got her she was very calm and would come out onto your hand without a fight or anything. Lately now though she is starting to hiss, turn black, and bite at me even if I just put my hand into the cage. Why would she be doing this? I haven't done anything differently and I know that chams don't really like to be held which I don't do often but for her to freak like that when I just put my hand into the cage seems a bit much. I have her in a room all by herself, screened enclouser, uva/uvb light, and a basking bulb.Plenty of places to hide, vines to climb on, and a drip system to drink from. Any help would be great. Thank you!!

What's the temps and humidity like? Chams really, REALLY don't enjoy human contact, so it could just be that she doesn't like your hand so close. It could even have to do with what you're wearing. Color plays a huge part in how chams communicate. She could be tolerant one day, and terrified the next, all because you're wearing a different shirt.

I found that the females I had were noticeably more aggressive than the males. How are you picking her up?Grabbing from above really freaks them out it's like being attacked by a bird. The best way is to lure them out with crickets or a superworm.Or slide your hand underneath.

My guy was the same, when we first got him he would come out onto our hands, now he runs a mile, and puffs all his body and beard out, thats since we changed his cage, when we got him he was in a glass viv, and I think the move to the screen cage stressed him to much, he must think we are going to be moving him about again each time we go to handle him, although he seems happy, he wont let us handle him.
Something must of upset your girl, have you made any changes to her cage at all, or is there something she can see, like other animals.

When I try to pick her up I always put my hand under her slowly so that she can see me. The petshop had her in a closed enclosure and when I saw her she was clawing to get out. Do you think it might be the switch to a screened enclosure? I have in a room all to herself, no other animals are in eyesight.
