Re: help on picking a few chameleons
No. They're very territorial, and easily stressed. I'm not sure even breeding pairs should be kept together. In my experience, they do not like anyone or anything in their territory at all, and get stressed to the point of making themselves sick very quickly. Even being where he could see the water dragon in a separate cage was stressing out my veiled, to the point where I had to move him into an enclosed area out of sight of the other cage.
I think that particular cham was an extreme case because he was sick and had come from an abusive situation, but I think that all chams will stress to some degree when faced with any other animal, including their own kind. Consider maybe setting up a few different enclosures next to each other, but with solid sides, so they can't see each other. That way, you get a bunch of chams, but you don't have to worry about them killing each other off. Also, I'd suggest getting veiled chameleons - only because information on them is so readily available, and if you are going to get several at once, you'll probably want to have a species that people can give you advice on, or that your vet is very familiar with.

Re: help on picking a few chameleons
I don't know that I would want to buy a chameleon from a pet store anyway. Very stressful environment for a young cham. Also, I'm not sure how they ship. Maybe someone else can answer that. I would think it wouldn't be ideal, but I don't know.
My first suggestion would be to check local rescues and shelters and see if they have any that need a home. Another good way to find an animal or breeder is to go to a reptile show in the area. I personally don't know any breeders, but maybe someone else will know who you can contact. Here's the caresheets we have for the caped dwarf chameleon: http://reptileguides.herpcenter.com/...-t14.html?t=14 and the veiled chameleon: http://reptileguides.herpcenter.com/...-t46.html?t=46 This will give you a good idea as what you are looking at for setup and care, at least for these two species. Edit: On reading the caresheet for the dwarf chameleon, it looks like that may be more of what you're looking for. I know nothing at all about them, but the caresheet seems to indicate they're more social. You might want to do some research on them.

Well I hope everything goes well with it. Don't forget to post pictures of him and his setup.

I know most reptiles aren't social. But, Chams have to be one of the most antisocial reptiles out there! If they weren't so cool to watch, I don't think there would be a demand for them.

Re: help on picking a few chameleons
I MUST agree on the chams stressing even at the sight of another. I have one of each sex - veiled chams, that is. The female is a bit sassier while the male is a HUGE chicken little!! He is afraid of everything! He won't even eat with me in the room while the female is practically eating them out of the tube I dump the crix from. They're both coming up on a year in Feb. and their traits are very clear. They're in separate enclosures and the female is up for adoption so eventually the male will be the only cham. They were intended as part of a breeding pair to begin with to help generate a little money for the rescue - but it was a stupid moment and the urge is well past!
They've been separated since the age of 4 months old. If they were not separated - the aggression may have left one dead - and I have the feeling it would have been the male. Regardless...chams of any species are meant to be very solitary...![]()
