Re: chameleon sick again
Is it possible your cham may have a hyper-extended tongue? This is a real problem in some chams and sometimes just needs time for the swelling and strain to go back to normal.
To help with the leaning cage you can tie the corners and secure the cage to a plant hook in the ceiling...not quite hanging, but allowing much of the weight to be on the twine instead leaning against the sides of a free-standing enclosure.

Re: chameleon sick again
Or you could make a box out of pvc to use as an outside frame and zip tie the habitat to it.

You could attach some nylon window screen over the drainage hole. It will probably get clogged easily though especially if your cage bottom is like mine.( covered with cypress mulch )

I have nothing on the bottom right now. The chams hand from the branch and zap crix off the floor bottom. I would be devastated to know a piece of substrate got stuck. ALTHOUGH...I am thinking of getting some of the weed guard material and making a "substrate burrito" with it. This will keep the humidity up, keep the crix from burrowing, keep the drain hole opened, and keep it from getting ingested...a four-in-one!

you sure its cypress mulch? I thought pines were toxic to critters. Is it the kind you got in a bag from the pet store, or a bag from Home Depot?

I bought the entire setup with cham included. I didn't change anything.
He's an adult (I bought him as an adult) and has spent his entire life in this. I didn't know that cypress is a pine. I've only heard of avoiding cedar. This question is a new one for me.
It came from the pet store. I was told to freeze any new mulch to kill parasites, But I boil it to be extra sure. All it takes is an old chili pot.

Re: chameleon sick again
Cypress mulch is commonly used, particularly with humidity sensitive animals since it holds water so well. It doesn't have the problems that cedar and pine do. I have used it with my ball pythons.
You can get it at the garden supply but make sure you aren't getting the red dyed stuff.

Re: chameleon sick again
In the enclosure I have, the pieces of cypress are too large to be digested, But you have to use the larger pieces from a new bag of mulch. You can seperate the small from the big with a water hose.
My cham doesn't eat from the floor. Rather, he sits on his limb and waits for the crickets to crawl up the screen sides to within "Zap" range.("Zap" range for my adult Veiled chameleon is 6 to 8 inches!)
To me , It's the feeding range And the fact that they can look in two different directions at once, that make these animals truely unique and very interesting.
I'm looking forward to the day where I can snap a quality image of him feeding from the maximum distance!
I also keep a small feeder bowl attached up in the limbs for wax worms. I think these must be a Chameleon delicasy! They eat them like candy! They have no exoskeleton, So are easily digestible.
