Re: Chameleon Freezing
It's probably his version of playing dead. My Veiled used to do that. What have you been feeding him? If he's a picky eater you'll have to give him a lot more options. One of my monitors is pretty picky. One month he'll love crickets. The next month he won't touch them but loves superworms. Other times it's strictly pinkies or turkey. You'll have to find something that appeals to him. You can't feed herps like children and expect them to eat when they're hungry enough.

Re: Chameleon Freezing
You can try butter worms. You'll have to put them in a shallow cup or something like a mayo lid. They're basically large maggots, but mine loves them.
How long have you had him?

Re: Chameleon Freezing
I have a veiled chameleon. They try to act like they're a plant or part of the plant that they're hiding in. Mine definetely doesn't like to be handled. He has a good bite, so I leave him alone. I've read that it's best not to handle these animals unless necessary because they are easily stressed.

Re: Chameleon Freezing
"my chameleon occassionaly freezes in the one postion .i pick him up and he stays stiff and ridgid and them a split second later his moving around as normal .any ideas if this is normal or is he lacking something?"
-This behaviour is very common in most Chameleons. The "freeze then move" behaviour is a defense mechanism and hunting strategy employed by the reptile. They have a rigid then jerky movement regime that makes them look like they are part of the branch that they are on and are moving in the breeze. "He is a very poor eater though" -Not surprised. Notoriously, Chameleons have difficulty surviving in captivity and like to die for no "apparent" reason. Although, here is a list of just a few suspected reasons for Chameleons not doing well in captivity: humidity is not perfect, vitamin intake is not perfect, heat is not perfect, prey items are not desired by the reptile (although it seems you have a wide range of prey items on hand), the enclosure used to house the reptile is not large enough, there are not enough climbing/hiding places, the substrate is not what the particular reptile likes, etc... All I can offer is: I hope you have good luck with him.
