Re: chameleons eyes stay shut, why?
I know this is an older post, however I want to offer some insight.
I'm wondering what your UVB source is.
Chameleons are low level UVB requiring reptiles. Where iguanas and Bearded Dragons and other high level requiring reptiles need a minimum of 50 uW/cm2...chams need between 5-10. Any more than that and eye problems, cell degeneration and cell destruction in unlaid eggs still within the female can result. If the UVB source is corrected the eye problems often fix themselves. They way I saw it described on the UVB_meter_owners group - It's kind of like being snowblind. It feels like sand is in the eyes so the eyes are wanting to stay closed to soothe the feeling away. With time away from the bright snow the temporary damage is resolved. Same thing with chams.
How did the vet visit go?
