How do i hydrate my chameleon???
I have been reading online about illnesses towards chameleons. The one that fits I think with mine is dehydration............I mist his cage about 3 or 4 times a day and I spray him to .........I have a water dish too..........He is very weak his grip is not very strong and his color is a lot darker......I know they won't drink out of the bowl but I don't know what to do ...........should I keep on misting his cage more often and mist him more often?..........Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Re: How do i hydrate my chameleon???
Veileds are one of the few chams that will use a water bowl but if yours is as week as you say you should try giving water from a pipet to get it rehydrated. Drip systems are also a good source of water along with misting.

Re: How do i hydrate my chameleon???
I spoke a while back with Bob about dehydration in chameleons, if I recall right they have serious issues recovering from that and there is always kidney damage if if gets that severe. My advice to you would be see a vet asap and maybe they will be able to give some injectable fliuds to avoid the the kidney damage, The way I understand that, is they have a harder time recovering from the damage and it can shorten it expected life span.

Re: How do i hydrate my chameleon???
It might be a good idea to take him to a vet, but remember that incurs more stress. You can try using an eyedroper and give hime some pedialyte to help stimulate the swallow and drinking reflex. This will also hydrate him and hopefully prevent severe damages. What type of chameleon is it?

Re: How do i hydrate my chameleon???
WHen I had my veiled I had a dripper positioned over some large leaves. It dripped leaf to leaf until it hit the water bowl. Seeing the dripping water seems to stimulate their drinking response.

Re: How do i hydrate my chameleon???
The simplest solution is to get a small reptile waterfall, or set up a drip cup if your cage allows for it. Buying a misting machine also helps an awful lot. They need quite a lot of humidity.
As for right now, not to belabor the point, but get your chameleon to a reptile vet right away. If you don't, he has a good chance of dying. Make sure to take him to a certified herp vet if you can, because regular vets who just look at reptiles don't always know the animal well enough to give an acurate diagnoses. Chameleons are notoriously delicate creatures. If yours starts to act weird or look funny, it's a good idea to get him to a vet right away unless you already know what the problem is and how to fix it.

Re: How do i hydrate my chameleon???
You could try a hydration chamber. Basically and aquarium with a few inches of water at the bottom with a rock or log for an island and some branches to climb on with a drip system or waterfall setup. Tons of humidity and drinking sources everywhere.

Re: How do i hydrate my chameleon???
Be sure too that the rest of his habitat is up to par. Chameleons are very delicate, stress easily, and recover poorly. Many, if not most, are not housed properly. Often times one problem will surface (like dehydration), but if there's one thing wrong it's quite possible there are other problems as well.
And yes, what species is it?
