It does look like he's drinking from some kind of straw or something in that first picture, just a wire behind the tank though.

I think there are alot of opinions on humidity for carpets, but from what I found in my research, with coastal carpets its actually better to err on the side of more dry then more wet. They tolerate a large "swing" in humidity, and its both safer and easier to keep them with less then 50% humidity. The tank is running about 40% right now (if my home depot hydrometer is to be believed)
Under the substrate it is still a bit damp, but I allow it to dry out on top.
