I just got back from lake superior and I found some really nice driftwood...what do I have to do to it to make it safe to put into my enclosure with my ball python???

If it's small enough bake it. 400 degrees for half hour should work....longer won't hurt. If it's too big to fit in the oven you can mix a 5-10% bleach solution and soak it overnight. Rinse very well though when you take it out.

If you go the bleach route. Make sure to leave it in the rain for a few days to get it off. It soaks in pretty far. You can quicken up the process but cutting out any holes or crotches then you won't have to leave the bleach on for long before rinsing it off. I've done it this way for many many years with no issues.

Im thinking about sanding the drift wood because it is an ugly gray...Should I sand it before or after I put it in the oven???

I would sand it after it was baked. This way, if the baking does darken the wood at all, it would be sanded off.

Definitely. Also the dust be be flammable if you didn't get it all off.
