Yeah this is the first post. Anyway--For the last 6 months we've had this headache with Canada revenue. Apparently someone used my wifes social insurance number when working at a moving company. At the time she was on maternity leave. So they think she was working at this moving company part-time, two months after having a baby, and two hours away. So now we owe them $2600 in taxes. It's been a real pain trying to get them to fix it and stop them from garnishing wages. If the government was a business it would have gone bankrupt long ago.

that sucks. I had a problem with my income taxes 2 years straight. The first year I worked freelance (2002) and did my own taxes, well, I messed up. I got a letter and sent it to my tax guy who agreed I did mess up. So I had a cry fest, borrowed $2500 from my dad and paid it off.

well when I got my 2005 tax return they took out the $2500!!! If I knew they were going to do that I would have never borrowed money from my father. So in essence I paid that $2500 twice!

Well, it took them 10 months to straighten it all out and I got my money back.

I'm so sorry. I have had problems with identity theft as well. It's never easy to straighten out, and no one is really sypathetic at all. It doesn't matter to them as long as they get their money.

I hope that you can get this worked out without too much stress.

TAXES.........GRRRRRRR.............. I hate that word I pay a TON in quarterly taxes but thats what happens I guess when you own a business! I am so tired of the IRS! I tell you when you owe them money they beat down your doors, but when they owe you money, good luck getting it, lol. I have not got a return in years, lol. Imagine that I even have 4 kids to write off!

I feel you nicole. I worked for myself for years and every year around tax time I would have a mental breakdown. I loved working for myself but I don't ever want the financial stress again!

The only problem here is tax time is Quarterly, ughhhh..... If I had to do it only once a year then maybe it would not be that bad, lol

The next issue I'll have to deal with once it is sorted out is to try and get a new social insurance number. Which is practically impossible from what I've heard. But there's no way I want this to happen again.

The quarterlies didn't bother me. I kept track of how much I made and always put some into a savings account to pay for it. It was doing the taxes at the end of the year, finding all the documentation for deductions and everything else that rattled my brain!
