Re: Should I take her? I need some opinions...
Thanks for all your opinions and suggestions. I was thinking of building her a 4'wide X 12'long X 4'high enclosure that sits off the ground. The guy that has her now says she will not take Pigs or Rabbits for him. He's been feeding her a ton of Rats every feeding.

You are taking on a lot of work and responsibility. I would have trouble turning someone down too, but a Burmese is more than I want to deal with. The one person who used to have a store about an hour from here always had Burmese in his store, usually people trying to sell. Their cages were always very small and would have 2-3 in them. The only thing the people selling them cared about was getting $250 or more for the cage (just some wire and plywood, about 2' x 3'). Even the one store I know right now that has a Burmese doesn't have enough room in her cage for her to stretch out, even going around the perimeter, and it shows, she is very unhappy and becoming mean. It sounds like you are working on a drawing up a good sized enclosure for her, she should be happy with that. Take care, think it through, and good luck.

Re: Should I take her? I need some opinions...
I do rescue and we get soooo many of these big girls its not even funny.
We love them dearly. As for "feeding it lots of rats every feeding"...... thats A LOT of freakin' rats... We have a 17' girl out there and she takes 7-9, I"ll say that again 7-9 flemish giant (15 lbs EACH) rabbits every feeding and when she has them all down- theres still no bulge.... She wont eat pigs/goats either... i've not had a rabbit problem. I get some that are 7-8 foot and eating adult mice and i'll skip 2-3 weeks of food (unless they're skinny) and toss a rabbit in- its always gone... anyway- if you can care for her better than any one else- take her- but make sure you have a cage for her---- she's loosing her first home, she shouldn't have to loose her second... beth |
