Feeding Problem

I'v had my burm for about a week and I tryed feeding my Burm today and he wouldnt eat. I tryed frozen Hoppers and Fuzzys yesterday so I thought ok i’ll try feeding him live fuzzys today. He wouldnt eat them either what should I do. The Pet store I got him from said he was eating small adult mice which seem kind of huge for him. So I tryed Fuzzys. I contacted the breeder the pet store got him from and he said he was feeding him live pinkies. The snake is like 2 months old. He told me to try live pinkies. What do you guys think. Would Fuzzys and Pinkies really make that much of a diffrence to him? Please I really need your guys help here.

Thanks so much!

Re: Feeding Problem

Size could be an issue, though a new hatched burm can take hoppers without a problem. Give it about five days between tries so your not over stressing the snake and causing it to refuse food. I've had luck with starting pythons of most kinds on live hoppers they move a bit more and seem to get their attention. If it's refusing food for along time you may try placing the food item in it's mouth. Open the mouth with somthing, place the mose in and gently pinch the mouth closed, place the snake back in it's cage. most times the'll finish the job. Sometimes you have to try it a few time. This is a last resort and has had much better results than force feeding for me. Give your snake some time even 4 weeks without eating itn't the end of the world for most. Just relax and try every 5-7 days. Good luck.

Re: Feeding Problem

If you have only had him a week he is most assurdely going through an adjustment period....I'd give him 2 or 3 weeks to get used to his new environment,,,,then try to feed.

Re: Feeding Problem

And leave him alone and don't handle during the acclimation period. Let him get settled in and feeding before trying to mess with him. What type of setup are you keeping him in (temperatures substrate etc)? Is he in a high traffic area?

Re: Feeding Problem

Im gonna agree with those saying hes just going thruogh hin adjustment period. Try leaving him alone for about 5 days before attempting to feed him again. Temps and substrate would be some helpful info :-)

Re: Feeding Problem

Temperature is fine in the 80's to 90's in the day and low 80's to 75 at night. He is not in a high traffic area at all hes in an insulated shed. Substrate is Repti Bark I think its made from Fur Bark or something I got it at the Pet Store it doesnt have Cedar in it. He's in a 40 gallon breeder right now.

Re: Feeding Problem

Well I had someone pick me some Hopper mice up from the pet store today. But instead of hoppers they gave him Adult Mice They're a little bigger around than my Burmese do you guys think they'd be ok to feed him or would they be a little to big. Hes 2 months old and about 30"s long.

Thanks,

Re: Feeding Problem

As long as the size of the mouse is about the size of the snakes body at the widest point or maybe a touch bigger you should be fine. It would be advisable to smack the mouise and kill it right before offering it to the snake so there are no accidents.
