Breeding burms
I have a female albino burmese that has eaten about 5 times, she is about 27 inches long. I want to eventually breed her but ive never bred burmese. i found a good deal on a male het albino and green burmese, so I was thikning about getting that soon. but from what i've read , you shouldn't breed your female burm when shes first capable of breeding, that you should wait until you know she is ready. So my question is, if I get this male now, will they automatically try to mate when theyre ready and will it be bad on my female?
Thanks, Stephen |

i know that they have to be in season and that in captivity its between november and march and know to induce their breeding by dropping the light and temp. But I was planning on keeping them together, so I shouldn't do that?

I would advise against keeping them together because of stress issues.
Have you had large snakes before? They are alot of work, I would advise you to wait until your female is grown and then ask yourself if you have the time money and room for another adult and all of their babies.

I agree with Lacey on this one...you need to let your female get full grown before making such a BIG decision. My female boa is only 40 inches and shes ALOT of work, do you have any idea of how much a 12 foot python is gonna poop every week?? Alot more then a St Bernard, are you really gonna be willing to clean up after and care for not only one, but two HUGE snakes?? And then their hatchlings?? You do realize its not gonna be easy selling these baby snakes, are you gonna have the time/patience to get all of them well started? All of this and the cost of feeding 2 full grown pythons is not cheap...do you like little bunny rabbits? If so I hope you know its what youll be feeding to your pythons, among many things.

plus fetal goats and pigs sounds like fun plus the chance your snakes maxies out at the top end of the scale.say 200lb´s.burms are every where now it wil be hard to sell babys and cost you lots to get them establesd but good luck with your female.

You may also find that there isn't much of a market for Baby burmese. People are starting to figure out just how big and how much work that cute little yellow snake is going to become.
Most of the Herp shops around here won't even carry them any more due to the facts that 1. They donn't move fast. Most people realize that they are unable or unwilling to own a 12 ft plus monster that is going to eat you out of house and home, poop and pee like you own a VERY large dog. And lets face it big snakes smell! 2. People kept bringing them back when they got bigger expecting to sell them back to the store for a lot more money than they paid for them.

Do you know how many unwanted burms there are?
Chances are if you breed yours quite a few of the babies will be added to the number. Unless you already have homes for all the babies, its probably not a good idea to breed them, instead just enjoy those beautiful burms for what they are. ![]() |

breeding
i know what kind of work it is, i have and do own large snakes, and I know what it takes to take care of them, money is not much of an issue, i have never had problems with that when it comes to taking care of my herps, and I have already built 1 custom tank for them (w-5ft l-15 h-6) and I am planning on building another one soon. i'm not trying to be rude, because I do appreciate your info, im just saying that I have taken care of bigger snakes and have 5 right now, the smallest being my 29in albino burm. i know that males mature and can mate a lot sooner than females, but what im asking is, would I be able to house them together for a while until he is almost sexually mature, say a year or so, and then move him to my other large enclosure until my female is ready?
