Roaming?
I have a quick question... My Boa sometimes gets pretty active when I hold him, and I would love to let the little fellow roam. Unfortunately there really isn't a whole lot of room in my house, and far too many places for him to get stuck in. I was wondering... Would it be ok to take him out to a nice lawn and let him slither around a bit, as long as a am right there and make sure he is not going to be disturbed?

I routinely take my animals outside for a bit of fresh air and real sunshine. Make sure that there are no chemicals sprayed on the lawn. Also you must be very aware of what is going on around you. Predators can come from many directions. everything from that harmless puppy playing nearby to that hawk so far above your head that you don't notice him. Also the well intentioned passerby that feels it is their duty to "rescue" you by suddenly killing that dangerous snake! There can be no burrows that the snake could disappear down.
There is also the off chance of the snake picking up an external parasite such as a snake mite or tick. I have never had any problem in that area.

Argh! The mites the mites! I think I am becoming obsessive compulsive in the mite area, I am constantly checking my babies over, and freaking out at any dark or redish spot. ~sigh~
Thanks for the response! We will both be much relieved to get out a bit and play, and I do plan to keep a close eye out. Aint no critter getting at my boa! I payed too much for him...

In all the years I have been doing this my animals have never picked up a mite! Thats not to say it can't happen, particulrly if there are a lot of native herps in the area.
