Hissing snakes

Hi,

Went to see a couple of Common Boas last night, and she was in the middle of giving birth. She was hissing constantly, and he said that she has never struck or bitten him, but on occassion has coiled up and hissed at him. Is this common, or is it possible that she was getting ready to shed at the time she hissed at him?

Steven

She may have been warning you off her babies.
Or it may have been the boa equivalent of Breathe,... breathe.... breathe!

NOOOO you guys...Steve was trying to say that of course she was hissing because of giving birth but on a regular basis, she once in a while curls up and hisses, like when she is getting ready to shed. And he wants to know if that was common the hissing on occasion... I found out that she was actually done giving birth when we had gotten there. She was in protection mode...I think we are gonna bring these babies home with us this week...and next year I will have babies to show...yay yay yay....

My Argentine Boas always hiss right before they shed when they have their eye caps.
