<< Poopy Questions >>

So last Sunday, I tried to feed my male colombian boa, kah. he wasn't interested in it at all. So we tried all week to get it to eat, but it wouldn't.
Well, when I woke up this morning, i saw that he had pooped in his water bowl, but it was a really big poop. Bigger than usual.
Could this be why he didn't want to eat, because he was "full"?
How often should he be pooping?
He's being really active now, so I'm pretty sure he's ready to eat. Before the poop, he was just coiled up in the corner, and wasn't moving that much.
Thanks for reading!

Re: << Poopy Questions >>

I would say thats why he didnt eat. Unlike humans, we gorge ourselves but I guess they know when to stop .

Re: << Poopy Questions >>

yeah it was on his feeding day
we tried to feed him a small rat. we usually feed him 4 adult mice, but thought that wed try a small rat.
we've fed him a rat before, but that was a couple months or more ago. he seemed to have a bit of trouble getting it down, but as I said that was a while back. my boyfriend said that hed rather feed him mice so he could get them down.
we're going to try to feed him again today.

Re: << Poopy Questions >>

I would recommend switching to rats permanently. 4 mice seems a bit much and he would get more nutrients out of 1 rat. The size of the rat can be up to 1 1/2 times the fattest point of the snake. You should see a nice size lump when it's swallowed. My 3 largest boas are just a bit over 4 feet and each one takes a large rat every 10 to 14 days. The smaller boas eat small rats every 7 days and the baby albino eats a large mouse every 7.

Re: << Poopy Questions >>

i knew that rats were more nutritious.
we feed him frozen, just so you know. we don't feed any of our snakes live.
when we tried the rat before, it wasnt that it was too fat, it was its length that seemed to be giving him problems.

Re: << Poopy Questions >>

If the girth of the rat will go down fine the length will not present a problem.
It may appear so due to it being longer than the mice you are used to feeding.

Re: << Poopy Questions >>

Oh and by the way, if the snake refuses to feed on its regular day just wait till the next weeks feeding day. Trying over and over will just stress it out.
