Feeding Boas

Boas are snakes that get big enough to evetually eat rabbits, if one were to take on feeder breeding projects, is it ok to use small rabbits to feed boas? do "rabbit pups" offer any nutritional value to a smaller boa? its not so much a project in mind, its more curiosity...

Re: Feeding Boas

Not all of them will get big enough for rabbits. And if they do it will be several years.
The only drawback I could see to rabbit pups is the size of the skull. Rats skulls are considerably smaller.

Re: Feeding Boas

My sister's red-tail boa eventually got big enough to eat rabbits, but she started out not much thicker than a pencil...
I think rats would be the most flexible feeder-breeding project. The bigger boa species can usually start with rat pinkies and move up to several jumbo rats. Our local zoo feeds rats to their HUGE burms (8 jumbo rats per feeding) -- even though those snakes could easily swallow a goat or a pig (or a small person!)
