Don't you love having mixed feelings about something?
I found someone online who was selling a cage they said had housed their iguana. They sent me a picture, and it looked big, and very nice. I would have to do a little work on it, but not as much as building a whole new one, and it was 50 bucks for the whole deal, so I wasn't going to pass it up.
So I went to pick it up and discovered it was MUCH smaller than it looked in the picture. (Teach me not to get dimensions. Doy.) However it was just the *perfect* size for a snake. And I've finally gotten to a place where I can not only have a snake, I can have the one I want - a chondro. Yes! (I will be picking one up in February.)
Now I had already started plans for a really amazing cage. It's really beautiful. This guy had posted a picture of one he built on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/smotz/243528527/). I had favorited the photo months (years?) ago, when I first saw it, and I new that was the cage I wanted to build. So I got instructions from him and everything. I was really eager to try out the PVC pipe thing. Who knows? I may still do that eventually.
So I'm a little disappointed that I don't get to build it myself - but I'm super excited as well. I'll have to take a picture of the cage I picked up. It's really perfect. I couldn't believe it.
The cool thing was that when I got there, they were getting rid of a whole bunch of stuff, so they gave me a few feet of coated wire and a HUGE piece of driftwood. I mean HUGE. It'll go in the new ig cage when I build that, and it will probably take up a good portion of it. I'll try to take a picture of that too with him on it. It's really gigantic.
Anyway - yay! New snake on the way! I'm dancing around happily. I've got almost everything ready. The last things on my list are to buy feeding tongs and a snake hook, and to find a trustworthy supplier of f/t mice and rats. Oh and something to transport it in.
