how to ditch a "friend" your husband likes?

Posted 02-25-2008 at 02:58 PM by schlegelbagel
Seriously, how do I do this? I can't stand him, I have officially decided this. I never want to hear his political banter again. I hate how he treats his animals. I hate how he talks down about where I live. I hate being stuck with him for a day or two on his boat with him, listening to all that ****. I hate that he has a cigar hanging from his mouth 24/7 and could care less if you are standing near the smoke.

However, for some reason, my husband likes to hang out with him, and I'm usually expected to come along, especially out for days on the boat. Did I mention I also hate being on boats?

Be honest with your husband about how you feel, and maybe suggest that he hang out with this guy on his own, while you get some relaxing you-time at home while he is away on the boat?

(This is advice from someone who is not married, but I generally find that it's better to just be honest with people and try to work out something reasonable. Most people understand.)

meh, i have tried to even explain why I don't like this person, and my husband's response is "oh thats just XX running his mouth. You know he doesn't really mean it like that."

But yeah, I think I'm going to back out of the boat trips. Besides not getting along, i get REALLY clostriphobic (sp?) on boats, especially one the size of his. Its like being in a camper in the water. And the last time we did an overnight on the boat, it took me 2 days to get over the wave feeling. *barf*

This would work:

"I don't like your friend. I don't want him in my home. You can go hang out with him when you like, but please don't invite me as I am officially declining all invitations now. Did I mention I don't like him?"

I used something similar with one of Angies friends. I didn't like the girl, or rather her personality. The girl herself was actually nice. Since our personalities clashed and I couldn't stand being in the room with her for more than a few minutes, I had no choice but to tell her. It worked itself out in the end once she knew how strongly I felt about the situation.

i have the same issue, one of my hubbies very good friends and I dont get along,, he is old school, women should be barefoot and pregnant type, and I myself am just about as outspoken as they come, completely the opposite of this guys wife. I just told my hubby that he stays out of my house and I will stay out of his, believe me life is much easier, lol. Every time he was over here I found myself purposely taunting him and running my mouth just to annoy him, lol. Sometimes I wanted to just smack him, lol, so life is definately much easier now that we stay away from each other.

at least they never come over. Another reason why I don't like them. Been in the "new house" 3 years now, and they are always too busy to make it over for dinner.

And yes Nicole, same type of guy. before him and his wife were married, i took her out for a night on the town, all we did was go dancing. We came home around 2am and he was standing at the door with the look of death in his eyes. I never bothered asking her to go out again.
