My Baby Bearded Dragon Wont Eat

    Hi, my name is Liz.

I have two baby Bearded Dragons (had them for about 2 months). One of them has stopped eating, it has been almost a week.
They live with my boyfriend full time, but I am babysitting them for two weeks, and had to drive them about an hour to my apt. I know that moving them can cause problems, however she was not eating for about 3 days before the move, and the other one is eating just fine.

They are in a 20 gallon tank with a large branch-type thing to climb around on, and leaves along the back where they usually sleep. There is a heat lamp and a UVB lamp which I keep on for 12 hours a day (i am not sure of the temperature i don't have a thermostat).

She is noticably getting smaller, I have tried holding food by her face but she just closes her eyes. crickets have been crawling on her and she just shakes them off. She wont eat crickets or worms.

    Thank you

Re: My Baby Bearded Dragon Wont Eat

I would first get a digital thermometer at walmart or lowes in the gardening section, with a probe that is. They are relatively inexpensive running around 8 - 10 dollars. Proper temperatures are extremly important for proper digestion and overall body functions. I would then seperate them, there could be competition/fighting causing the smaller one not to eat. They generally do not do well in groups, especially if they happen to both be male dragons/and or if one is larger then the other. Very large enclosures are also needed, with multiple basking/eating areas to prevent fighting. Even with this, things do not always work out.
A fecal exam by a qualified herp vet would also be a great idea!

So, seperate, and get some thermometers to start, and go from there.

Another thing to rule out is GI obstruction. What kind of bedding are you using, and are they both deficating normally?

Your enclosure is way too small for 1 BD let alone 2 of them. They need to be separated because there will always be a dominant one and a weak one. BD are perfectly fine on their own, and that is the best way to go to avoid desasters.

You need a 4X2X2 tank for 1 BD (they grow very fast) They need UVB, they need calcium and a good temps radiant. My BD is just 4 1/2 months, she eats about 500 crickets a week .... When they get proper care they eat and grow normally.

there is a care sheet on BD on here that you can read. It will help you a lot!
