I am just wondering what is a safe portion of waxworm and butterworms to give to a growing bearded dragon?
I know they are treats but would like to give those even if they are treats they still have some good nutritional stuff ...

Sandra, I give mine 3 waxies a week and I just mix them in with the salad so sometimes she doesnt get them all. I dont really think She cares for them to much and I havent been able to get butterworms out here, so I dont know how much of those.

The wax and butter I got it from PetSmart, so they are tiny not full grown as if you'd get them from a supplier. I gave like 2 waxworms today and yesterday I gave more of the butterworms.
I am guessing if they are fully grown and plump they have way more fat in them than the skinny little ones I got from PetSmart
I wouldnt think that the skinny worms have as much fat, but I would watch giving them to often since I have been told that if your critter ( dragons, geckos,ect...) gets hooked on them then thats all they will want to eat and in that instance they are not healthy.

Butterworms would be a better choice, very high in calcium, also silkworm, hornworms! I would try all those before waxworms, just my thought!
It's not like Mary-Loo is in of putting on extra fatShe's just right!

Lol ... they didnt have any silks why I went with butter and wax
Just that I have had her for 2 months now and all she had was crickets .... which btw she is running low in crickets until the next cricket delivery ... so I need a little filler until she gets her new cricket order.
My crickets didnt grow as expected ... so she eats doublethe 1500 goes way faster that way. She is definately ready for 5/8"
I know Hannibal loved the butterworms and the hornworms and the silks, she loves them all. Like Mom always said variety is the spice of life!![]()

I have yet to find a feeder that my babies love more than hornworms. We get them from our local expo.

A Fluffy beardie is a happy beardie!
Hornworms and silkworms are great. Waxworms are good once in a while. I think you mentioned a problem with your last order of Phoenix worms/soldier fly larva? Those are excellent feeders but I can understand if you are wary.
I don't trust butterworms, there isn't any trusted data source on their nutrition, they come in irradiated, and have been known to "burn" crested geckos in one extreme example. However, if they are working for you, they are probably a decent feeder if the data is right.

"Burning'' gueckos? sounds scary. My BD been ok so far.
I would re-order PW but I live in Canada and they are hard to find. The last batch I payed $35 including shipping just for 2 tins. They got here all weird. Just a little too expensive for me to risk ordering.
