Question Feeding Beardie Crickets

I am new to the bearded dragon community. I have a question my baby is about 11 weeks old and I have him in a 40 breeder tank. I am having problems keeping all of the crickets together and chasing them inside the tank after his 10 minute feeding is very very time consuming. How can I keep them contained for easier retrieval? I just got him on saturday and he is so awesome but he isn't interested in eating right now. So I thought if I could keep the better contained it may make my job a little easier. I am willing to try anything.
Thanks

Re: Feeding Beardie Crickets

Pull off their jumping legs and some of their crawling legs (the tiny legs)

Won't that kill the crickets?

Just put a some of the crickets in the fridge for a few minutes, that will slow them down so he can catch them easier.
Do you have any photos you can put up? Thanks!

Re: Feeding Beardie Crickets

Just a suggestion,.....but I know it worked wonders for me..... I purchased a small plastic container (about the size of a kitty litter box)..i found it MUCH easier to simply take my Bearded Dragons out of their cage, and set them in the container to feed them.....the other container made it much easier for the Bearded Dragon to get to the food, whether it was a jumping cricket, squirming superworm, or a crawling Dubia....(as for now, I feed only superworms and Dubia.....got too tired of the smell and hassle of the crickets.)......now that mine are full size, I still use a separate container for most of their "live feedings"...granted I had to get a slightly bigger container once the smaller one was outgrown.....but considering both were only a few $ at Wal-mart, no biggie at all...

Re: Feeding Beardie Crickets

I thought about that too. I was just a little concerned since I just got him this past Saturday and I read that you don't really want to handle him at all until he has had time to adjust for a few weeks. But yes I have thought of that and also wanted to soak him to make sure he is properly hydrated but once again I was going to give him a week before doing that. I did finally get him to eat 3 crickets tonight and he ate a bite of salad today and a piece of the dry bearded dragon food. What is ya'lls opinion of the dry food, is it a supplement or should I have that in his cage at all times too? Thanks

i am still learning just like you so im no expert, but from what I understand if you want to feed dry food it should be part of a varied diet along with your crix or other buggies and salad stuffs. the dry food is advertised as being suitable for a staple item in their diet, but I think if you decide to offer it regularly it should only make up a small portion of your Bearded Dragons daily food. IMO, it makes sense just to leave a small ammount in a dish all day like you would with your greens, and change it daily. but, since your Bearded Dragon is still young you might want to look into that more. im not 100% sure if its safe to leave any food item in with your dragon when they are so young.

Bearded dragon food, is pretty useless. Bugs should be there main diet, fully gutloaded with lots of veggies. As they get older, they will eat more veggies and less bugs.

Re: Feeding Beardie Crickets

At 11 weeks what else can be fed to these little guys other than crickets and salad? At what age can they start super worms?
