Poop?
Hi all. Stitch, my bearded dragon hasn't pooped in about a week. She gets her calcium, has a basking light, a UV bulb and is generally a very happy little princess.
We have had her since April. She was 6 weeks when we bought her so quite young still. She has always had "regular" bowel movements. I've found that the little stinker will wait until she is out her own environment to poop. And she particularly likes to poop in a warm bath. So, I take her out more than once a day and have given her two baths in the last week. Still no poop. A friend of mine said this is normal. So, how long do I wait before considering this a problem? Stats: 27 gallon glass tank with metal screen lid basking temp 103', basking ledge 6 inches away from light cool side 75-80' Guess I should add some indight into her diet as well... DUH She gets a daily dalad of collard greens, endive and dandelion greens (when I can find them). I also rotate other veggies. She mainly gets crickets with the occasional meal of jumbo mealies. And her substrate is paper towel... |

Re: Poop?
Try bringing your basking temp up to 105. Often a couple of degrees will make a world of difference. You might also add a bit of water soaked repcal pellets to her salad to bring more water into the system, or a bit of canned pumpkin.

Re: Poop?
Thanks Merlin. I add the soaked pellets to her salad about 3 times a week. I'll be looking at her temps today and will try to fix that.

Re: Poop?
I think it would be easier to control the temps. if you could possibly cover the back and sides with something... It also gives the animal it little more "privacy". The young bearded dragons will usually take more insects in their diet.... ( But the greens ARE good!)

Re: Poop?
When you raise the basking temp, do it by moving the basking area closer to the bulb. I would try and get it up higher than 105 (personally).
Low basking temps and dehydration are the cause of impaction (amongst other things). Screen top tanks dehydrate reptiles faster than a solid enclosure with smaller vents on the side. Tim

Re: Poop?
Has she been to the vet and been checked for parasites?
