Do Beardies Like to Be PET Or...

    Am I just annoying him?

I hold him in my hand and gently stroke his head / neck area. He closes his eyes and chills. Is that good?

    Thanks

It's a sign of stress. He thinks if he closes his eyes that the predator will go away.

Depends on why he's closing his eyes. If you're brushing up against them, of course, that's annoying. If he's closing them just from being touched, he may be stressed.. Or he may be comfortable.

The best stress indicator is to look at his belly. If it's dark and spotted, you're stressing him out. If it's white, then he's just chilling.

I've found that with time my Bearded Dragon has become quite the cuddle bug, though, so keep at it!

Hmmm... okay. I understand the predator thing. So if hoping the predator goes away is his reaction, then he wouldn't darken his beard or anything, right? Since it is a submissive response?

If I can't pet him, then what can I do to comfort him?

    thanks guys!

Reptiles don't really need to be 'comforted' in the way you would comfort a person or a dog. Just making sure his set up is proper, his lighting is good and he has access to fresh food and water will do the trick.

To cuddle or not.... Let my Bearded Dragons tell you.

They are both in their own enclosures - 2 x 1 meters, lots of space to run around.

    1. Lets talk about Sky, his enclosure is right next to the lounge chair and I always open his window when ever I sit there. Then he will watch me for awhile and climb out by himself and climb on top of my chest.

    2. 90% Of the time, after his 'cuddle', when I try and put him back then he will turn around and climb back onto my hand.

    3. When he is lying on my chest and I stop stroking him for awhile, give my hand a rest, then he will shake his body or tap a foot, as if he is very annoyed because I stopped.

River, my other Bearded Dragon is different.

    1. He will run up and down his enclosure until I open the window (he is not next to the chair). If I put him on the ground to let him run around if he feels like it, he always try and climb up my leg. His happiest place is on my hand or chest .

    IMHO my dragons LOVE attention!!!

To me, a 'lazy' dragon is a depressed dragon.

I agree, my dragon is so cuddly! I wonder what it is that makes them so.

She falls asleep on me almost every night. I'll lift her out of her enclosure and put her on my chest and she'll literally snuggle up on my shoulder and fall asleep.

my big girl loves to be cuddled and will come to you and snuggl up but my baby stresses and hates to be cuddled on she would rather be left alone.

Both of mine came from homes where they weren't treated very well.
My first one, Rosalie, was tamed already, and she was calm when I held her.
The second, Raptor, was vicious... He's gotten more tame, however.
He doesn't hiss anymore, and he's not as skittish.
Yesterday I picked him up and put him in his bucket while I cleaned out his cage and he didn't hiss or puff or squirm at all :]
I took Rose out today to show her to my family and she sat in my lap for about thirty minutes, still and calm.
My grandfather was petting her and she just looked at him.
Gosh I love my Bearded Dragons.
They're the neatest little critterss :]
