    Two Beardies, One Terrarium

I have recently moved my two bearded dragons into one terrarium in order to save space and cut down on all the lights and stuff. I suspected that I had a four year old female (Pinky) and a one year old male (Fonz). Now I'm thinking I perhaps have two females because there's been a bit of clawing and biting. Mostly the younger Fonz is biting Pink's tail and climbing on her. Maybe I do have a male and a female. My concern is that I'm possibly mistaken and I have two males. I've checked for the femoral pores and I can't identify any on either lizard which leads me to believe I have females. When I lift their tails I look for two bumps on the underside but along the sides just above the vent, indicating a male or one central bump pretty much at the vent indicating a female. Again I suspect they're both female but this biting behavior is upsetting. Is it just natural establishing dominance or does someone think I might need to separate them again?

he he honestly, I think you have some breeding things going on there but we need to make sure you don't have two males. Post pics of the undersides of both and we can see if we can determine the sexes. In that one pic the reason I suggested there mating is because I saw a black beard but the pic was a bit far to tell. I think they're trying to mate at least. But they could also be trying dominate each other in that case you need to separate them.

It sounds to me like you have dominance issues, and they don't just go away. They will get worse until one stops eating or isn't allowed to bask and you will have major health issues. I would separate them.

Even if you did have a male and a female you wouldn't want to keep them together because they would over breed and that would significantly cut the females lifespan short...

I would also get them off the sand. But that is my opinion...

The black beard doesn't mean that it has to be a male. I had a female that got darker than my male...
