Hi, I'm wondering why none of the care sheets available mention egg laying issues of ball pythons. Do the females lay eggs regardless of whether they have mated or not, and is the egg laying process quite difficult and dangerous?

Also, is there any reliable way to sex a juvenile ball python? I can't probe obviously and even if I could the seller wouldn't let me unless I have bought it anyway. I read that the only way is by looking at tail length and spur size which is said to be quite inaccurate?

I'm not 100% sure, but I do not believe they lay without being mated...I have had my adult female for almost 3 years and she never laid without being mated.

As far as sexing, I dont think the tail and spur is accurate, my females spurs are the same size as my male. I think probing is the best way to sex juvies.

Ok so is the egg laying process of as much concern as of an iguana? Is it difficult to deal with or do most lay a-okay in captivity? What are the proper methods to deal with gravidity?

From what I understand you don't really have to worry about laying issues in snakes. I could be wrong, but I've just never heard of then laying without mating.
