So far every time one of my ball pythons (3) have shed I have had to help them in some way. If you are worried about a bath take a towel, dampen it with lukewarm water, wrap the snake in the towel and put in a pillowcase. Tie the end of the pillowcase and put back in the enclosure (4-12 hours). The humidity from the towel and the friction of the snake looking for a way out will usually take of any unshed skin.

If your shed is coming off in little pieces just raise the humitity in ur enclosure next time and it should come off in one piece. My BP is always wild in the water cuz he isnt to fond of it lol but ya just soak him and he should be fine.

You need to make sure that inparticular the eye and tip of the tail skins are off, otherwise there could be serious problems later on down the line. After two days after he started shedding he has only got the head off? You need to bath him, or as Jay suggested, put him in a pillow case with a damp towel in there. What has your humidity been at? Royals need humidity of 50-60% but higher when in shed. One of our ball pythons had great difficulty shedding when we first got him, but is getting better - our other one has always had brilliant sheds, only once or twice has he had some trouble and then we have just bathed him and he has been fine.

Useful info

This is my first day checking out the Herp Center. Already, just by reading other posts, I'm learning more about my own Royal. Just one question. How often does the Ball Python shed? I've only had him for about two weeks. I try to keep the humidity at at least 60%. Is it alright to raise it to 80% to compensate for the loss of moisture over a few hours, or is it better to buy a fogger or humidifier to keep it at a constant 60%?

How often they shed depends on how fast they are growing. With a youngster like yours it is not unreasonable for them to shed ever 3-4 weeks. What I do when they "go blue" is to lay a wet bath towel across 1/2 of the cage top. The humidifier is a good idea if you can control it so the substrate does not stay constantly damp. That will lead to scale rot.
