Monty's feeding pics
We just graduated Monty to a bigger sized rat. He was on 2-3 fuzzies (total 30-40g) every 7-10 days. This is one rat weighing 36g. Although it was the right weight and not much bigger than his girth, I wasn't sure he'd get it in. His head looks soooooo small compared to the rat!
But he took it and swallowed it as fast as the pinkies.
Thought I'd share the experience:

After he got it down, it didn't seem to make much of a lump, but I was sure holding my breath there for a while!!
(He's really growing fast. And his colors seem to be getting darker than before.)
Thanks for looking!!!

Great pics Andrea.
How much does Monty weigh now? I know you got him around the same time we got Acacia and they were the same kind of size and weight. Until now we have only been able to get her feeding on mice, and usually she would only take one mouse per week, which was not enough, but better than nothing. Last week she took her first small rat, which was great, and far better suited to her.
She's really growing too, we didn't realise just how much until we got Acai and Keita, who are about the same size she was when we got her last year.!
Glad Monty is gobbling down those rats too - hopefully you won't have the same feeding problems we have with Tigger, one of our adult males, every year, once he gets to breeding age!

That's great! I hope my snakes will take to rats ok...I'm switching them from mice, and their first rats are supposed to arrive at my door on Wednesday.

Thanks everyone. Juliane; I needed to rub a mouse on the first rats that I tried to feed to Monty and Q. But after the third feeding or so, they took the rats without scenting.
Rachel: Monty is now 72cm long and weighs 322g (I've read that many BPs his size weigh double that amount, but Monty looks OK to me... no ribs or spine showing. How much does Acacia weigh? How much do you think he should weigh? I wish there was some sort of BMI for snakes!
I'm still not 100% sure that Monty is a male, I just call him "he". How old is breeding age for BPs? I really don't need any fasting hassles from him!
Since I've started heating up the F/T food to 38-40 degrees C, he snaps them right out of the feeding tongs! The last two feeding times, he's gotten these bigger rats; maybe they smell stronger or something, but he doesn't waste a second grabbing them!
