    Feeding Schedule of Adult Ball?

I've had my ball python for 5 years now and I want to say he was 2 years when I adopted him. Recently he has gone a month without eating, he ate 2 out of 3 of the live mice on Feb 11. Normally I feed him 3 mice every 2 weeks, but last month refused to eat. Tonight he ate 1 of the 2 live mice I have been caring for since the 8th of this month. My question is: now that he is eating again how many mice should I feed in how long of intervals? In the past I have based his defecation to meaning he is ready to eat, normally every 2 weeks from when he was fed last. Thoughts?
    Thank you

    1. Have you ever tried feeding your python frozen/thawed food items? It may take a little effort to get him to switch over, but feeding f/t or pre-killed rodents is much much safer for the snake than feeding live.
    2. Rather than offering multiple mice, you would be better off giving him a single prey item of appropriate size. An adult ball python should be eating rats rather than mice, and they should be at least as big around as the snake... possibly a little larger.
    3. Every 7-10 days is a pretty typical feeding schedule for an adult ball python, but waiting every two weeks shouldn't be a problem.

Won't let me edit my post for some reason...

I just wanted to add that large rats can cause serious injury, and can even kill a ball python. Which is why it's so important to feed f/t or pre-killed.

I agree that you may be better off feeding a larger animal so it's only a one time deal. I also suggest killing it before you feed it to it though. As for the 2 weeks you have it on it should be fine. How big is your snake?

He is about to shed would bathing him or having a humidity hide help? Both my basking and infrared bulbs are broken. I'm in middle of getting the broken bulb out of the lamp. As of now I have a heating pad under his house. Should I wait to add the humidity hide until I can have heat on top of it?

Yes if he's in shed a humidity hide would help. Try putting one on the cool side or maybe in the middle if you are worried about undertank. Don't worry about him not eating especially if he is in shed. Mine do it all the time.

Your snake should be on rats. Rats have more nutrients for the snake than mice do (or so I've heard). A good way to tell what size rat is if the belly is bulging a tiny bit after eating. Try small rat if he takes that easy, you could try a medium rat next. I agree though with the above though frozen thawed would be best but if yours is a picky eater like some of mine you could try fresh killed. Just use leopard gecko tongs to move the rat around. It takes a minute but its well worth it. There's a thread in general discussion you should look at started by Rich. It shows the aftermath after a rat attacked a ball python.
