My Balls Mouth is Sore :(

my 7 month old ball python keeps rubbing his bottom "lip" against the glass (as if he's trying to shed) to the point where its imflamed and sore. i'm not sure if it's rot..? please help me... it looks painful. he doesnt seem to be less active and his appetite is always good. I've been putting a&d cream on it everyday. his mouth closes but when you open it up it looks irregular/sore with maybe some scabbing? I just don't have a good herp vet in the area. does it sound like rot?

Does the scab area look like sort of a cheesey looking substance?
It may indeed be mouthrot(infectious stomatitis). And the problem is this is usually a secondary infection brought on by something else that is already weakening the snake's immune system. If this initial problem isn't treated the mouth rot will keep coming back.
Your best bet is a trip to a good herp vet. Sometimes it takes some effort to find one and maybe a bit of a drive to get there.
But its the cost we must pay for keeping exotic animals.

No, there was no cheesy substance. it just looks irritated and immflammed with a little bit of black (which i think is scabs). I really want to get him to a vet.. im a poor college student and will use every penny i have to get him better.. but if it sounds more like irritation to you id rather save the money. ive called all the vets in my area and no one knows much about reptiles. sucks. But this rubbing problem he has is a habit i think.. he doesnt have mites. he does it all the time. i keep putting the cream on (which he seems to like) but I dont know if its helping or what?

Good luck at the vet, better to get it looked at sooner than later, infections can spread if left untreated. Keep us posted.
