bp breeding project
thinking of breeding bp's for albino's...thought I would start with 2 het male and females and eventually get more het females...was wondering what kind of difficulties i'll run into or space requirements i'll need ... how big are bp's when they reach maturity/how old should they be? anyone with experiences they would like to share would be great...

I can't say I have experience;got to wait for my BPs untilAugust/Sept.,but from the day I fell in love with BPs and decieded that I want them as pets,I was reading every day about them (internet,books..,) .They should be about 1-3 years old,and the girls need a special weight before they can have babies, otherwise it's bad for them!!
But if you want to breed them, please may I advice you to read as much as you can and go and visit a local breeder to get helpful information!! Please don't get me wrong, but it puzzles me that you haven't thought about books and internet in the first place.I'm sure herpcenter is a great place for getting information, but it's always handy to have a book at your reach! Just today I read that if the eggs are kept too warm, they either won't hatch or they grow too fast inside the egg and will be deformed. Have you looked at the caresheet from Rich?? He's got great information on BPs.,If you buy a book, may I suggest to buy more than one, because every author had diffrent experience.I have now two books from Germans, but I want to buy two or three english speaking authors, just out of curiousity how they see the BP in the terrarium. Albinos are beautiful! My local breeder might have babies next year, but they are VERY expensive!! Because they are VERY rare in Switzerland (if I remember correct, there are only about 25 albino BPs in the whole country with a population of about 7 million people!) But when I think of the population you got in Canada,or even America, then I must say that the Swiss are rather a rare species too, lol!) Oh I almost forgot: here an albino baby will cost up to $ 4000.-. But the more there will be, hopefully the cheaper they get! Lots of fun and good luck with your project, and please keep us posted! |

It's pretty crazy how expensive some morphs can be! Even in a place like Canada where BPs are fairly common, I saw a site that had some morphs that were $9,000+. What a huge investment! I'd love to have that kind of cash one day, there are some truly amazing morphs out there, but for now, I think normals are about all my budget can afford.
