Though snakes can be opportunistic, I have not heard any account of a Ball Python (wild or captive) consuming eggs. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen, just means I haven't heard of it.
Snakes that habitually eat eggs are typically highly specialized for just that.

I think I saw something on TV about snakes eating eggs but I don't think it was a Python, better not risk it.
Specialized egg-eating snakes will eat eggs, then regurgitate the shell. In other snakes, I think this might pose an impaction risk.

I won't try that then. Thanks one and all.
I agree that a snake has to be specialized in this. Even a king snake that eats other snakes has a special muscle that folds the eaten snake inside it's stomach. I would imagine an egg eater would have special muscles to crush the egg while most other snakes do not.
Plus eggs do not maintain a certain temp when unattended and the mother whatever would surely give a good fight.

"Nifty", now I haven't heard that since, "Leave it to Beaver"!
Maybe you should watch TV and listen to the radio after all!
