Hello and HELP???

Is it normal for occasional liquid urine, or should I be worried and get her to a vet?

I am a fairly new snake owner, and I could use a bit of advice. I just recently got a 1.5yrs BP for my birthday in May, and so far all has been great, she is active, "playful", and loves the attention of my family. She eats normally once a week. Her habitat is a glass tank with Reptibark substrate, she has a log to climb on, and a hollowed log (too small) for her to hide under (need to get a larger hiding spot, she is growing fast!), and a bathing/drinking bowl. I have a under-tank heating pad, and I take her outside quite often during the day as well. I keep bark semi humid, but she seems to prefer it more on the dry side.

My problem--she normally poos after every meal approx. 12hrs-1 day after eating. She urinates normally (solid) about twice a week. Tonight I heard a strange noise, and looked to see that the bottom of the tank was soiled with what appeared to be water but smells like her urine. (she didn't spill the water bowl)

Any advise???

Re: Hello and HELP???

Snakes will normally have some liquid with their wastes but usually will deficate and pass urates at the same time.
Is it just clear liquid or is it a diarrea?

Re: Hello and HELP???

I have seen my red tail boa do this once. We were outside and she lifted her tail and let loose. It was a definite urine stream. I don't know if it is common but she wasn't ill and it hasn't happened since last May.

Re: Hello and HELP???

The day time temp can run up about 82 in the summer, and nighttime down to 72. Humidity is keep pretty consistent through the summer as my house is water cooled by what is called a swamp cooler. I also spray down the tank with a spray bottle about once a week. She tends to get crabby when I spray any more often then that.

Thanks for all the quick help!!!

Re: Hello and HELP???

It is definitely a clear liquid, and not diarrea. She had just pooed earlier yesterday, and it was normal solid and well formed. The sound I heard coming from the tank was like she was a bit gassy. I immediately turned on the light and saw that she had passed a clear liquid and a bit of solid urine.

Thanks a bunch for the fast responses!!!

Re: Hello and HELP???

No, but what IS your humidity? Proper humidity is very important, especially during shedding. Go pick up yourself a digial hygrometer/thermometer. They can be found at Walmart in the hardware section for $8. She needs a basking area of 90 degrees.

Here is a link to our care sheet. Ball Python Caresheet (Python regius) - Reptile Information - Caresheets Database

Here is what it says about humidity:
Supplying humidity to a ball python is rather simple. Most of the reading you have done in the past will tell you that they require an enclosure with 50-60% humidity. Maintaining these levels are crucial. Exceeding these levels can lead to other problems.
Though maintaining a humidity level that does not exceed 60% is not going to harm the snake, those owners that add too much humidity can cause their snake to be succumbed to various other ailments. It is essential that a proper humidity level be maintained without over or under doing it. Respiratory infections will occur if the snake isn't equipped with a proper humidity level.

Are you talking about the temps in the house or in the enclosure?
Your temps need to come up! The snake should have a warm area of 90-95 degrees. And check it with a digital thermomter not one of those stick on tapes or little round dial types.
I am quite familiar with swampcoolers. When I was growing up that is all we had! There were no refridgerated air conditioners! The humidity level in your house is probably high. However the heat in the tank can dry the air in there out and since warm air rises draw the moisture right out the top of the tank.
