Should I Handle My BP?
So I've noticed over the past 2 days that its eyes are milky bluish white and so obviously that's a sign that its about to shed. My question is, should I be handling it until I notice that its starting to shed or should I just stay away until the shedding process is completed? I've read up on what I should be looking at when it sheds (eg eye scale) and things of that nature, but I've not found anything on whether they should be handled or not. I'm not sure if its blind at the moment and I'm paranoid that it will strike me lol.

re: Should I Handle My BP?
I would just leave it alone until it's done. When mine sheds it takes about 10-14 days and when he's done. I find a **** and his skin in his humidity hide. So yea, just leave it be. I doubt it will strike you if you try and pick it up, but it might freak out, since it can't really see. Patience is rough, but well worth the effort for your snake.

re: Should I Handle My BP?
I handle my snakes during shed, that is till their eyes turn back black a bit, then hands off for the shed. Picking them up while the eyes are cloudy is a slower process, letting them know it's me for sure, light petting, slowly stirring them, before gently picking them up. I'm sure there are snakes that don't like to be handled during this period, mine still enjoy the out time. My big girl hasn't shed for me yet, but my others do, and have no issues being held during this time.
And yes, a shed and a poop marks the end of this process, lol.

re: Should I Handle My BP?
I recommend that you leave the snake alone during the shedding cycle. For one, once the eyes milk over they can't see and may be jumpy. Many also get irritable due to the discomfort of the shedding proccess.
Its also possible to damage the new skin underneath by handling too roughly.

re: Should I Handle My BP?
Okay so his eyes are now back to being black.
I think I'll just leave him alone for a few days.
I fed him 2 days ago when I saw his eyes were getting cloudy because I've read that they usually don't eat during the shedding period. I don't want my baby boy going hungry!

re: Should I Handle My BP?
Don't worry, they don't go hungry in the time it takes to shed. Snakes' metabolism doesn't work the same way ours do.
Usually you will see the eyes are clear, then they turn blue, then sometimes you see they are clear again but you don't find any shed. It'll come soon.

re: Should I Handle My BP?
Snakes can live for a long time without eating in the wild. Soo, I think a week or two won't kill him, heh...
