Re: Been 2 Weeks Now.
Hi! Just a newbie, so definitely not an expert. But I just got 2 baby BPs 2 weeks ago, so it seems like we could share some commonality. Before I got them, they had been fed live fuzzies, but I wanted to feed f/t and was worried they wouldn't take them. Not sure what your feeding set-up is like, but I took both babies and moved them from their habitat into separate feeding enclosures (shoeboxes w/ lids), and then put the lids on while I prepped the food. Then, one at a time I opened the box and fed them w/ hemostats. I've fed them twice now and found that sometimes they prefer the "dangle" method, and other times they prefer the "help....I'm a lame, sick mouse and have nowhere to go" method. Either way, I kept a firm grip on the prey w/ the hemostats, and made the prey "dance" in a number of ways until I was able to entice them. After, I put the lids on the boxes and let them do their thing.
Tuesday, when I tried to feed them, I put them both in their feed boxes and did not put the lid on. I couldn't find my hemostats, so I tried to feed w/ tweezers, which was a bad idea...the mice kept falling out of the grip of the tweezers and freaking out the snakes. Yesterday (Thursday) I tried to feed them again, but put the lid on the boxes while I prepped the prey and used hemostats...no problem...they took the prey with gusto. Maybe you could try letting them get chill in an enclosed feeding tub/box, and then feed them? I think it really helps. Good luck!! |
