Hide preference?

This is what our member has to say: Do any of you have BPs that seem to "prefer" one type of hide above all others? I've tried out quite a few different hides ...

Hide preference?

Do any of you have BPs that seem to "prefer" one type of hide above all others? I've tried out quite a few different hides for mine, but he always goes back to this certain dog food dish. I originally put it in there as a temporary thing 'til I could afford to get a "real" hide, and I got this nice rock cave deal for the tank now, but he still only hides under the dog food dish, which has his water in it. Doesn't matter which side of the tank (warm or cool) it's on, either, I've experimented switching the positions of the hides and everything. Back under the dog food dish he goes. I just think it's funny he can pick out that particular hide when he's got a couple others to choose from. Are yours picky about what type of thing they hide in?

i don't have a ball python but I do have a corn who loves his purple plastic igloo. it was originally for a rat but I never used it so I put it in my snake's tank and he's pretty happy with it. i've put other hides in there on both sides and he likes the purple igloo the best, always goes to that one or a cardboard box thats in there. lol

Haha, I was looking at those plastic igloo things!! They seemed perfect for hides, they were just too hideous in colour. Like my tank needs a splash of neon purple or something. The sour cream container for his wet hide is ugly enough!

It may have to do with the size of the hides. BPs like the hide to be a tight squeeze. They are happiest when they are crammed in touching the sides on all sides.

LOL, its just like when you buy kids the most expensive toys at christmas, and they want to play with the box

All of my corn snakes use their plastic dog food dishes instead of their hides, but my BP has a big heavy pot dog dish for his water and 2 hides and he uses the same hide all the time, I most probably think if I he had a plastic dish like the others he would use it

Mine like boxes with the bottoms cut out....then I cover the hides with the aspen bedding
