Pooing Question
Ok I have read the care sheet. It says I should feed my BP once a week. Well I feed her once every 2 weeks, but I do not know if I should feed her since she has not pooed. Does it make any difference if she poos or not, and is it true that a BP can get "fat" or over weight? I heard they store more body fat then other herps. Any help would be nice. I am about to feed her. It has been more than 2 weeks but she has not pooed. Does this mean that my temps are not proper or that she needs more heat? I find her in the mid day on the far side of the tank so I know it is a little warmer in the day time than night, but I am not able to check the day time temps. When I get home they are normal but she is still on the cool side.

Re: Pooing Question
Welcome to the boards. Tell us more about your setup. Temps, humdidty, size, all that good stuff.
Try giving your snake a luke warm bath. That might help things "move along." And please refrain from using "internet slang" for example "n e" instead of "any." We have lots of people who have this site translated into many languages and internet slang makes it very hard for them to interpret.

Re: Pooing Question
Believe me, a soak in warm water helps. I had a snake regurge the day after a feeding, and it was due to him being "full of poo" lol. One soak, and sure enough, out came the poo.
Good Luck!

Quote:
The more details that you give us the more likely it is we can help you. How big is the snake? You should feed every week unless its an adult on large feeders. Ball python metabolism is slow and there can be considerable time between poos. Additionally, if the snake is being underfed there isn't as much to deal with, that will extend the time. And pick up a digital thermometer with a minimum maximum reading. That will tell you what is going on while you are away.

Re: Pooing Question
Waste is unprocessed and expelled matter. If you are underfeeding, there will be less waste than someone who feeds every 7-10 days because the vast majority of what was eaten would be metabolized. I am not saying this is what is going on, but it's a possibility.
Waste is expelled when the bowel has enough in it to trigger a reaction. If the bowel has very little waste in it, there wouldn't be a reason for a movement just yet. I would also suggest soaking the snake to ensure it isn't any type of constipation. If the tank is cooler than suggested, it will take longer for the snake to metabolize and digest the prey. |

Re: Pooing Question
Well I broke her light just 2 days ago and replaced it. I moved the BD's thermometer to her tank today after posting to see if her temps are right and they are not. It is only about 88 under this new light. I did not want to buy it but it was the only reptile red light they had in the whole store!! Is red or black light better? I know some keepers who keep a red light on their snakes all the time. Is this ok? I have an under the tank heater, but left it at my old apartment and have not gotten over to get it. I will be getting a new light soon as I can afford to, now that I know this one is not warm enough.... I will be swimming her and feeding her tonight.

Re: Pooing Question
I am not a big fan of either of the colored lights.
For nighttime heat I like heat emitters. When my BP's were little their heat all came from a human type heating pad.
