Re: Kingsbury Herpetology Exhibit!!!

Thanks for the replies...the kids at the school are loving them. I have noticed that the average humidity is around 50-55. We have a bubble gum bucket in there with water in it though we havent witnessed them bathing yet. I've had a chance to take the pythons to three classes so far. I am alternating snakes..they already have a schedule.
Monday-Thursday the corn snake and alternate between male and female pythons.
Thursday Afternoon they eat...one mouse a piece.
Friday-Saturday they rest and enjoy themselves, lol.

I will look for a heating pad. Should it be placed under the enclosure, or under the astroturf...and should I try to get two since there are two snakes?

It depends on what you get. There are some that are designed to go under the enclosure and some that are designed to be able to go into the enclosure.
And you will only need one.
One thing you do need to address is the thermometers. It is imperative that you know what is happening to the temperatures while you are gone. In these days of high energy costs most school buildings have the heat and air shut off over night or at least over the weekend. The snakes may be subject to dangerous extremes of temperature when you are not there to monitor them.

Re: Kingsbury Herpetology Exhibit!!!

The temps Im not worried about as far as the air is concerned. I have the school leave my air on as I have fish in my room...actually there are alot of animals in our school.

Three snakes in my room...with a 30g freshwater
Several 10G freshwater tanks in various classrooms
A 90G African Cichlid Tank in the entry of the school
and a 30G saltwater tank in the library...so the air stays on all over the place, lol.

Where might I find the thermometer with the memory thing on it?

Re: Kingsbury Herpetology Exhibit!!!

Forgot to mention the hot rock...it was in there when I received the snakes..I unplugged it after noticing the male resting on it for awhile...thought he might burn himself...I was wondering if there were anything else of intrest I might look into trying to find for my students to be exposed to..any suggestions..or offers perhaps.

Last night a co-worker called me and informed me that her class will be studying pond life this week and she asked her husband to get her a frog to show her class. He came home with a red poisonus frog...kinda makes ya wonder what his intent was,lol...seriously if anyone has any ideas please feel free to let me know.

Thanks for all the help and replies....Leroy

Re: Kingsbury Herpetology Exhibit!!!

Thanks...on the back of my enclose there is a wire screen that allows for air flow...can I close it off to help with the heat/humidity issues or would that be a bad idea?

Leroy
