Ummm, Help Again! Gentle Got Out! |
| This is what our member has to say: Don't get discouraged, ball pythons can go a long time without food, it's not unheard of for snakes to show up months after getting lost.... |

thats a really good idea.dark. since it is around feeding time and she's probably hungry go ahead and put her food on something in the room her cage is in. If she's looking she'll find it.

If not, chill the house and make a hot spot, I have used it a few times with my Houdini corns, I finally got a lid with a lock they could not pop.
Make the house cool and put out an electric blanket, she should go to it. You could also put the prey item on the blanket.

Re: Ummm, Help Again! Gentle Got Out!
did you find her yet? i've heard of people having snakes missing for 2 to 4 months and then they just show up. only thing that makes it harder is that with warmer weather around, there aren't so few 'hot spots' that a snake would prefer, and the areas that were hot spots during winter might now be too warm for the snake to hang around. as for getting outside, unless you have holes in your walls or doors, i doubt it would have gotten out.
last week I had a 2.5ft ball escape threw a tare my cat made in its screen before I was able to buy a new one (apparently a piece of cardboard half the length of the cage with a 10 gallon tank on top of it wasn't enough to secure it). have torn up most of the house searching for him, but still no luck. now am just leaving traps in various places.
traps are quite simple, just take an empty milk jug or soda bottle, put a dead mouse in it, poke some additional holes for the aroma to escape from, and put them in various places around the house. if the snake finds one and eats it, he might stay in the container to sleep. or if he leaves, at least you know the snake is in the house, the room he's possibly in, and you know he isn't starving.
besides that, theres the corn starch or flour trick. just leave lines of corn starch or flour across doorways or walls. if the snake goes threw it he'll leave a bit of a trail that can give you a hint to its location or at least let you know what room he's in.

Re: Ummm, Help Again! Gentle Got Out!
Awww I feel your pain! My BP, Maverick, escaped a few days ago. My apartment isn't big, but I know there were sooooo many places he could be, many of which I can't get to, at least without major furniture and appliance rearranging. I was also worried that my chihuahua would find him before I did and theres no telling what either one of them would do in that situation.
All I could think about were all the places he could be and how long it would take me to look and how many little tiny places he could fit I decided my chances were best trying to find him at night, when he would normally be active. So that night I turned off all the lights and turned on the red incandescent bulb I only use to warm up the F/T mice after they've thawed and right before I feed them to Mav. I knew he'd be hungry since it was feeding day and I thought maybe he'd see the red light on and think "food!". Maybe he did because within less than a minute I heard a rustling noise and looked over on the table to see the dark outline of a snake crawling out of a bag of dog bones. Why he was in there...no idea lol.
I wish you lots of luck in finding your snake, thats just the worst feeling when you realize its escaped! Lots of people have given great tips, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that one of them works!
