instead of scooping, i thought i'd just use my shopvac to clean out my tank. much faster and less messy. however my concern would be airborne diseases like salmonella, (can salmonella be contracted via breathing it in?) any pros or cons to this.

I know that lots of people do water change with wet/dry vacs. If you have a hepa filter on when sucking up dry stuff, I would think you would be fine.

Salmonella is delivered via the feces so if it is in the air then you could concievable injest it.
What I do is to lay down overlapping sheets of newspaper in the bottom of the tank and then put the shavings down. When it comes time to clean I just roll the newspaper up with the shavings inside

i do that too when I clean. i put some newspaper down and then the bedding, then when I clean I roll up the newspaper and throw it away. anything that falls back into the enclosure I scoop up with a dust pan I bought for use with the snakes only.

I just use paper towels for mine and once she dirties them I take em out and lay new ones down
