Free Roamer |
| This is what our member has to say: Do any of you let your ball python free roam? Also is it fairly safe to have 2 of the same sized balls living together.... |

Re: Free Roamer
Free roam as in how?? Some time out for excercise,, that is supervised at ALL times is great.
I dont agree with housing any snakes together.

Re: Free Roamer
Housing snakes together is always a risk, but some do fine their whole life and others are great until one day you just seem to lose one and the other looks fat and happy.
I heard a horror story the other day about a PetsMart... go figure... snake incident, they were stocking the reptile area and they put a group of corns in with a group of kings, guess what the outcome was. About free roaming, I would never let a snake free roam unsupervised, they are crafty critters that will not free roam well, they will end up stuck somewhere in a wall dead or will allow themselves to be free outside, especially a ball, they may not seem that big, but they are great at escaping through the tiniest little hole.

Re: Free Roamer
I would watch out letting any big reptile roam free. Their temperament can drastically change in a very short time when they get a sense of freedom. I speak from a "not so pleasant experience".
Plus!, Thats all Florida needs is another exotic snake escapee. Like Nicole said they should only get supervised exercise. |

Re: Free Roamer
I would not recommend that you let it free roam.
My friend did that years ago and I found her snake after days mind you in her recliner! We had to basically destroy that chair to get it out! They are excellent escape artists! I dont know what she was thinking! |

Re: Free Roamer
Oh, I'd never let a snake free roam. As mentioned, they can squeeze into all kinds of nooks and crannies and just disappear for days, weeks, or permanently. It would be far too easy for them to get into a situation they couldn't get out of or even to simply escape through some undiscovered pathway to the outside world.

Re: Free Roamer
Free roaming a snake, any snake, is not an option. The number of ways to escape or get into other trouble would surprise you. Additionally, since Ball pythons are a tropical snake it would require you to keep the entire place in the upper eighties to low 90's and high humidity.
I don't know many people who would enjoy living that way for very long!

Re: Free Roamer
I also dont recommend free roaming any snake....for the reasons stated prior....as for housing 2 ball pythons together...I house mine together...as long as they are the same size and not both male...it is possible....best wishes...

Re: Free Roamer
we do the same thing with the AC here in baltimore. Not to mention we just dropped the thermostat by 5 degrees. Our bill was $325 last month
Time to add sweaters and blankets. I topped all the frog tanks off with a layer of insulation.
