Bedding question
Hi all =) Well I have my baby on news paper right now because the bedding he had before, at my store, was Fir and Sphagnus, and Peat moss mix... something like that... and he kept getting the bedding stuck in his mouth. I had to help him get it out of his mouth twice so I got worried and just replaced it with news paper.... but.. I kind of feel bad? I'd like to give him something he could burrow into....
What other bedding could I use? I was thinking a blanket... i coul stuff it in the tank that way he'd have spots to burrow into... but someone said that it wasn't a good idea cause his teeth could get stuck on the threads? So what other bedding could I use? I don't want it getting stuck in his mouth again.... I was thinking aspen, but... I'm not sure. Any suggestions? Thanks =) |

Re: Bedding question
I know a blanket isn't a good idea, because it can harbor bacteria. Someone will chime in, i hear lots of people using some sort of tree, but I can't remember off the top of my head.

Re: Bedding question
A blanket wouldnt work. As liz said. Also the fact that if he spilled the water it would be soaked up in the blanket. Not a good idea.
Ive used aspen. I had an ok result, then I switched to newspaper. My bps get under the newspaper all the time, so burrowing isnt to much of a problem. Also its so much easier to clean than other stuff. To make sure nothing gets stuck in his mouth, feed him in another tub. Like an extra 10 gallon, or a tote with holes in it. That is how I do mine. Place them in their tubs, close the lids, then cover them so it will get dark and get them into more of a hunt mode. That is what works for me to make sure they eat.

Re: Bedding question
I used aspen once and seemed to have shedding problems which never happened before. I stoppped using it and no more shed problems. Due to the fact I have so many tanks it's easier for me to just use newspaper. I also use a feeder tank.

Re: Bedding question
I'm not familiar with it and have no clue as to what it is.

Re: Bedding question
i use carefresh for my snake tanks, they like to burrow under it. though I always feed them in a seperate container because I don't want them ingesting bedding or associating my hand going in there all the time with them getting fed.
