Shedding
So my BP has the cloudy eyes and the discoloured skin, so we know he is about to shed. So should I go ahead and do the damp towel in a damp pillow case now? And how long does he stay in there?? Should I check on him periodically or just leave him alone till however long I should keep him in??

Re: Shedding
I would only go that route if you had a problem with the shed. He is now on the "verge" of shedding. Just bump up the humidity in his enclosure and be sure to have something abrasive for him to rub against.

Re: Shedding
Yeah, he does have problems with shedding, every single shed has been irregular. We're having problems with keeping humidity, and we don't wanna mist daily yet until we get a new Hydrometer.

Re: Shedding
try covering 2/3 of the top of the tank with a damp towel, that will hold in more humididty.

Re: Shedding
Go ahead with the misting. With a newspaper substrate it will dry out quickly. Unless you are keeping the bottom of the cage constatnly wet the misting will not be too much.
The pillowcase trick is to be used after the snake has shed to remove leftover peices. The snake can be cloudy for several days and will shed shortly after the cloudiness clears up.

Re: Shedding
Actually he did have some left over on his head, which I posted about in an earlier thread. With Christmas coming up our schedual has been packed and last night was one of the first nights we actually didnt go anywhere and do anything, other than grocery shopping and gettin the new Kingsnake, so I finnally had time to get everything I needed done as far as up keep on bam bam. We put him in the pillow case and this morning the left over dead skin was gone. So i'll go with misting, since it will dry up quickly, im not worried about too much humidity then. And I will post an update on how it works when he is done shedding..

Re: Shedding
Well I used aspen for a while, but newspaper was so much easier to clean and I always thought that sand, coconut fiber, and so on were bad. I know its not recomended for lizards because of impaction.. so I didnt know if this was the same for snakes..

Re: Shedding
There is the danger of impaction but only if you feed in the enclosure.

Re: Shedding
Well there would be impaction, if it was coconut chunks or bark .this is fiber and in can be easily digested. So you have no worries about it. i aways feed in their tank. again just a prefrence .i just know that coconut fiber dose a great job without to much work from us.it holds great humidity. i found with paper once they pee the paper locks in the smell.but again thats just me .i just wanted to let you know you have no worries with coconut fiber harming your snake
