Humidity Problems..
So we came to the conlusion that our snake is not shedding right because his enclosure is not humid enough. Im going to buy another thermostat and hydrometer next weekend to make sure everything is where it should be. We had a sticker strip thermo but it started to peel away and I just took it off today. And I read the caresheet over again and I know it said during the bps shedding to mist the tank to keep the humidity and keep a bowl of water for the bp to soak in. But should you mist the tank even when he isnt shedding to keep the humidty up?? We have a 29 gallon tank with a basking light that stays just under 90 and the cool side stays around 75 usually. We use an undertank heat pad in the center of the tank under his hide away.. the main purpose of the heating pad is for the night but we leave it on all the time to keep the middle to keep the tank around 80-85. I think the humidty in our house is around 40-45% (about the average for a house). So is there anything im lacking or anything I need to change??

Re: Humidity Problems..
The tape thermometers do not measure the temperature in the tank but only the temperature of the glass.
Daily misting is a good thing. What are you using as substrate?
I prefer to keep the undertank heater under the same end of the tank as the outside heater. This gives you a better temperature gradient.

Re: Humidity Problems..
With BPs I susggest using a wood substrate and feeding outside the enclosure. The newspaper just won't help hold the humidity. Cypress mulch is great as a substrate. It is a spongy type wood and will absorb water better than the aspen.

Re: Humidity Problems..
Ok well we do feed in a 10gallon tank actually. Which we bought originally to get another reptile like a cornsnake or frog or something (back when I had no clue about anything to do with reptiles).

Re: Humidity Problems..
Seal up the lid leave about an inch on either side and tape the rest with some type of duct tape. you can mist all you want but it will just dry up if the lid isnt sealed. Once you do that keep up with the misting and just a suggestion cocnut fiber holds humidity great.first shed was bad then I did all this and have had a perfect one piece shed everytime eye capes included

Re: Humidity Problems..
ok, i'll keep that in mind this weekend when I buy some bedding for my king and bp, i finnaly got a timed power strip, which is wonderful, cause I know i've had a few days where I was out when it was time to shut off their lights and just plain spaced it, so it makes things a little more relaxed as far as worrying about their photo period. So a few days ago bam bam's eyes turned milky and now they are back to their regular colour and I notice that the shedding process is taking a little longer, usualy after his eyes return to normal he would start shedding irregularily. And I looked at his body today and noticed its slowly dicolouring and seems to be pretty even throughout his whole body and head. could this be a sign of a regular shed possibly?? It just seems like the process is taking longer than it has before, and his scales are evenly drying up and discoloring..
