its been awhile since the last shed
Just sitting here at work and I realized corona hasnt shed in awhile. Any ideas on why it is taking so long for another shed? When I lived in new orleans never ever had to worry about the humidity. I would just have to turn off the a/c and open a window,
but now I am in little rock, ar. what are some tips to raise the humidity? i think that may be my prob. |

Re: its been awhile since the last shed
You can try covering half the tank with aluminum or plastic wrap or with a damp towel.

Humidity - Ball Python Caresheet Supplying humidity to a ball python is rather simple. Most of the reading you have done in the past will tell you that they require an enclosure with 50-60% humidity. Maintaining these levels are crucial. Exceeding these levels can lead to other problems. A large water bowl in which it can soak itself as well as a moist retreat are excellent ways to help the ball get the humidity that it requires.. (though some ball pythons, by decision, will not soak themselves.) The snake is capable of understanding when it requires more humidity. It will climb into the retreat when it is required. Though maintaining a humidity level that does not exceed 60% is not going to harm the snake, those owners that add too much humidity can cause their snake to be succumbed to various other ailments. It is essential that a proper humidity level be maintained without over or under doing it. Respiratory infections will occur if the snake isn't equipped with a proper humidity level.

Re: its been awhile since the last shed
The lack of humidity will not really have any effect on the frequency of shedding or the shed cycle itself. The snake will still go "blue" and milky but may have problems during the actual shedding of the skin.
The frequency of shedding is affected by the growth rate of the snake. Young rapidly growing snakes need to shed moire often than a snake that is bigger and not growing as quickly. Judging by the pictures you posted on the other thread I would say the snake is nearing its adult size and the frequency is just naturally slowing down along with its growth rate.

Re: its been awhile since the last shed
i don't have any ball pythons but I keep a record of when my snakes shed or eat in a notebook. its helpful because sometimes you notice patterns. i've noticed just how much my corns shed when they were babies and that the shedding has slowed down now that they're getting bigger.
