PLEASE HELP!! Antibiotic confusion

[F][/font]
So, our 1 year old ball python, Ringo, has a respiratory tract infection.

The veterinarian said to refrigerate the probiotic, but not the antibiotic.

Two problems...#1: The vet said to refrigerate the probiotic, but when it is refrigerated it doesn't evacuate the syringe properly making it difficult to administer. #2: The manufacturer's packaging states to store at room temperature.

Now, the vet had stated to refrigerate one, but not the other. Is it possible that she mislabeled the prescriptions? If the Entroflaoxacin (antibiotic) should be refrigerated, but not the probiotic, then that is what I would want to do.

So my question is: Does anyone know about the proper storage of these drugs? If so, please let me know. The veterinarian has given our Ringo a "guarded" prognosis and we want to do everything correctly in order to ensure improvement in his health.

Thank you.

Re: PLEASE HELP!! Antibiotic confusion

Here's a link that might help. Baytril is a trade name for Enrofloxacin.

Re: PLEASE HELP!! Antibiotic confusion

From what I've read, Baytril should be stored at room temperature. If small crystals build up in it, you shouldn't use it.
Call your vet office as soon as it opens and double-check what she said and what she gave you. Vets are not infallible, I've gotten mislabeled meds before (with serious consequences) so it's better to be safe than sorry!
In the meantime, make sure you raise the temps in your BPs terrarium and keep him as stress-free as possible (between meds, at least!)
Good luck with Ringo. I hope he gets better soon!

Re: PLEASE HELP!! Antibiotic confusion

I am assuming this is injectable Baytril? I have never been told to refrigerate any that I have used.

Re: PLEASE HELP!! Antibiotic confusion

We don't refrigerate our Baytril or our probiotics at our clinic, be we don't carry anything reptile specific.
