Damien is shedding
My question is how long before we can handle him and feed him? My husband is away for awhile and I can't remember what he said.
Oh and last Thursday I couldn't get him to eat so I took him into a pet store and they said to let him try a live mouse on his own. I didn't think he would take it since he wouldn't before, well within minutes he was eating on his own! One less thing to worry about

Re: Damien is shedding
some snakes only want live food, some only want dead. My friend has a snake, which when a live mouse was given, its bounced on the snakes head. I don't think the snake knew what to do.

Re: Damien is shedding
All of my snakes eat f/t. One was only fed live and it took a while for him to get used to frozen but now he has no problem. It's so much easier and safer for the snake to go f/t.

Re: Damien is shedding
If the eyes are still cloudy, be leary of handling as he can't see you and an impulsive/defensive strike could be the result.
Once the eyes clear, your snake will shed typically within that week. Once the shed has been completed, and is visible in the enclosure, you can try feeding again. Handling can be done during a shed, though it is always less stressful for the snake if it isn't.

Re: Damien is shedding
Most snakes will nt feed prior to a shed.
And don't worry about missing a feeding. They can go months without eating!
I would stay away from anyone that suggested feeding a snake that is taking pre killed food a live mouse just because it skipped one meal.

Re: Damien is shedding
I just noticed him shedding last night and so far it's off of his head. He's laying under is light all streched out....so I grabbed my tape measure and measured him{thru the glass} He's almost 2 feet.
